For a second I saw matter
as what it really is.
Maybe a cosmic failsafe hiccuped.
Maybe when you traced the creases
on my palms, lingering at my fingers,
and your face turned soft with moonlight,
a universal law made exception for your beauty.
I saw you in the timid paleness
trimmed with gray-green
and white
and yellow all around
and you were real.
